PLT Update

HIV Long Term Survivors Awareness Day 6 June   This is the first year we have joined the international groups honouring this day. We are so appreciative of Cassy O’Connor MP/ Leader of the Greens has delivered a speech to parliament on this special day. The link to her powerful speech can be found here https://tasmps.greens.org.au/parliament/hiv-survivors-awareness-day

Vale Wayne Priddle   We are very sad to hear that Wayne has died after a short illness. He was a Sydney boy who relocated to Hobart and found a place as a heritage gardener, astute political chatterer and a warm and humourous person. We thank him for all the support he has given PLT and offer condolences to his family and friends. There will be a gathering of people to honour his life. If you wish to attend please contact PLT and we will pass on details as they are known.

HIV Long Term Survivors Day

Let’s earmark 5 June this year to join the rest of the world in recognising the long-term HIV survivors. They have been living the pandemic for forty years now and have largely gone unnoticed. The impact on their lives has been, and continues to be significant.

This day has been set aside each year to honour and recognise these long term survivors and to raise awareness of the needs, issues and concerns. We will post further details regarding this important day

PLT and our COVID Times

COVID has made social connection more difficult, so we are glad to be meeting regularly again. Members are invited to attend any of our gatherings. It provides the opportunity to build strong links with each other and provide support for issues that arise in any of our lives. We also discover common themes which may be used to seek further information or find solutions and results. Food, good nutrition, social activity and exercise continue to be our focus however we also get to travel and meet members from across the state. If you would like more member contact, please get in touch. We encourage members to continue to seek clinical support for any related health issues coming up during this time. Early intervention is a winner.

Donations are continually needed to support our work and activity. While we have a number of funding submissions being considered, we need donations to provide direct assistance to members that struggle with support from other agencies especially with access to good food, but also for utilities. Any donations are tax deductible and go a long way to help.
